PURPOSE:To improve resistance against contamination of hydrogen occlusion alloy for preventing deterioration of battery characteristics by a method wherein the hydrogen occlusion alloy as a material of a negative pole is soaked in heated water to be subjected to surface treatment. CONSTITUTION:In an alkaline accumulator with hydrogen occlusion alloy used as a material of a negative pole 2, the hydrogen occlusion alloy is soaked in water heated to 60 deg.C or higher to be subjected to surface treatment, so that a coating is formed on the surface of the hydrogen occlusion alloy to be inactivated. In such a coating is formed and inactivated, elusion of the hydrogen occlusion alloy is suppressed in alkaline solution. Therefore, if the hydrogen occlusion alloy is used as the material of a negative pole of an alkaline accumulator, an alkaline accumulator excellent in anti-corrosion property of the negative pole having long service life can be obtained. |
