23843-162 A refractory discharge sleeve for use in the outlet of a metallurgical vessel includes an annular insert of a refractory gas-permeable material surrounding the flow passage and embedded in the refractory material of the sleeve. The insert is surrounded over its periphery and over at least a part of its ends by a metal casing. A pipe communicates with the interior of the casing. An inert treatment gas may be supplied through the pipe and then passes through the pores of the insert into the flow passage and thus prevents clogging of the flow passage. PA 3488
