PURPOSE:To turn on the display of an operation part only when necessary and to prolong the life of a display element by providing a turn-on/off control means which detects whether an operator approaches or leaves a machine by a human body detecting means and turns on and off the display of the operation part. CONSTITUTION:An original pressure plate 2 which presses an original on the contact glass is provided on the top surface of the copying machine 1 and an operation display part 3 and the detection part 4 of an operator detecting device are provided on the front side F on the top surface. When the operator 5 operates the copying machine 1 from the front side F of the copying machine 1, the presence of the operator 5 and the presence range relative to the copying machine 1 are detected. The detection part 4 is added to the operation display part 3 and, for example, when the detection part 6 detects an infrared-ray beam 6, the reflection of the infrared rays 6 is detected to detect the presence of the operator 5; when an ultrasonic wave is used, areas are prescribed vertically between external edges 7 and 8 and horizontally between external edges 9 and 10 to measure the distance of the operator 5 to the copying machine 1 in those area, so that the display element turns off when the operator 5 leaves the machine 1. |
