PURPOSE:To improve detection accuracy for knocking generation by surely detecting a knocking signal in the case of abnormal combustion, and not influencing a setting of a knocking judgement level based on a frequency distribution of a representative value during a specified term of the knocking signal. CONSTITUTION:A knocking of an engine A is detected by a means B, a representative value of the detection signal during a specified time is detected by a means C. A knocking judgement level is set by a means D at the same cylinder in response to the representative value. Knocking generation in response to the knocking signal and the knocking judgement level is detected by a means E. The knocking generation is controlled by means F. In this case, a standard level which is lower than the knocking judgement level is first set by a means G based on frequency distribution of the representative value at the abnormal combustion time of the knocking signal in setting the knocking judgement level. When the representative value is more than the standard level, increase of the knocking judgement level is then controlled by means H. |
