PURPOSE:To easily obtain hardware by using general purpose devices by deviating hourly the processing of odd numbered lines from that of even numbered lines in the predictive coding and decoding processing of an input image signal to execute parallel operation between lines. CONSTITUTION:In the predictive coding device e.g. a line separating circuit 31 separates an input image signal into odd numbered lines and even numbered lines. The odd numbered line signal is sent from the 1st output terminal of the circuit 31 into a 1st predictive coding circuit 32. On the other hand, the even numbered line signal is sent to a 2nd predictive coding circuit 37 through a 1st delay circuit 36. The 2nd predictive coding circuit 37 executes similar operation by constitution similar to the circuit 32. A line multiplexing circuit 45 selects either one of the 1st and 2nd coding signals alternately delayed by the 1st delay circuit 44 and outputs the selected coding signal as an output coding signal. |
