The throttle valve pivot 4 is offset from the centre of the valve such that a pressure differential across the valve caused by intake vacuum produces a torque which acts to urge the valve towards its closed position to provide resistance to a force applied to the accelerator pedal 6 in addition to that provided by return springs 9 and 10.
