The tightening device according to this invention is designed to be applied to a sail (1) and connected to a sail batten pocket (3). It is designed to tighten the sail batten (3) in the pocket to desired, curved shape. The device consists of an elongate vertically U-shaped lower batten holder (4) and two upper, relative to each other adjustable holders (5) and (6) for tightening and locking of the batten. The holders are provided with towards each other directed, interlocking ratchet devices (8', 8'' and 9', 9'') to enable detent displacement of the holders (5) and (6) relative to the holder (4). When the displacement of the holders is to be performed, the tip of a screw driver is brought to co-operate with grooves or teeth on the upper side of the holder (4) and the screw driver is moved in a clockwise way thereby forcing the holders (5) and (6) to be displaced relative to the lower holder (4). The operation causes the batten (3) to tighten in the batten pocket and get a curved shape. By tightening the through screws (7) in the holders (5) and (6) the lower and upper holders are locked relative to each other. |
