The high-power Nd:YAG laser delivers two beams, one via a delaying path (6, 8) and the other at twice the frequency (7) to be combined through a common aperture and lens to focus at the entrance to an optical fibre. The multifibre catheter comprises an outer ring of fibres carrying the beam energy and a central channel for use either as an endoscope or hollow and carrying fluid to the tip.
