PURPOSE: To avoid an accidental damage due to overheating by providing a first transformer connected to the two voltage tapes of a superconducting coil, a reader and a second transformer with a superconducting secondary coil so as to detect a quench. CONSTITUTION: Voltage taps 2 and 3 of a multi-winding superconducting coil 1 and a transformer 5 are connected through a resistance element Rp to form a first circuit 4. The transformer 5, a secondary coil 7 and a secondary coil 11 of a second conductor 11 consist of a superconducting material and are mutually connected in series to form a reading coil 13 and a second circuit 8. A current flowing through the circuit 8 is accurately proportional to a voltage between the taps 2 and 3 of the coil 1. As a result, the resistant voltage drop between the taps 2 and 3 varies the current flowing through the circuit 8, when a quench is generated 1 so as to be zero in a superconducting state and non-zero when superconductivity disappears. As a result of this, a reader 12 and using a normal electronic device, the variation in the current of a coil 13 is observed with an early time scale. |
