<p>A cutting or chopping device, particularly useful in association with a composter for biodegradable wastes, includes a hopper (10) and rotary cutting elements (14, 16), which have a normal, close relative position and a relatively separated position. In normal operation, the waste material is cut and chopped by the elements (14, 16) disposed in their relatively close position. If, however, a hard non-biodegradable object is encountered, the cutting elements (14, 16) move to their relatively separated position in response to the resistance encountered, so as to let the object pass through the cutter without causing damage.</p> |
