This material comprises a thermosetting resin matrix containing layers of carbon filaments. Given the high modulus of elasticity of these filaments, they cannot expand during the thermoforming of the composite material. Furthermore, these filaments can be wetted by the resin only with relative difficulty, so that thermoforming causes the composite material to delaminate. For this reason, an open-pored, compressible intermediate layer with a low modulus of elasticity is intercalated between two layers of the reinforcing filament material. This intermediate layer has excellent grip on the resin and can absorb tensile and compressive stress by virtue of its compressibility. |
