<p>The present invention relates to a method of making a substituted carbodiimide by dehydrating a substituted urea in a refluxing organic solvent in the presence of a sulfonyl halide and an amine base. Upon completion of the dehydration reaction, the completed reaction mixture is washed with a dilute aqueous bicarbonate solution and a dilute aqueous acid solution to remove undesired by-products and to give the desired carbodiimide in high yield and purity.</p> |
