A cooling fan is driven by an electric motor operated at two power levels dependent on lower and upper coolant temps. A thermostatic valve (14) in a housing (27) on the cylinder head has its working piston (28) raised and lowered by a spring biased slider (29) moving in line with the thermostatic element (33) in the flow (41, 42) of coolant to the passenger compartment heater. The slider (29) also operates a microswitch (25) to increase the voltage applied to the fan motor. ADVANTAGE - Effectiveness of cooling system is improved without recourse to auxiliary power supply.
