Liquid cooling system for high temperature battery - has heat exchanger loop with pre cooling reservoir stage

A high temperature battery, e.g. natrium-sulphuric acid (1), has a matrix of electrochemical cells (3) that generate thermal energy and is cooled by passing a liquid through a heat exchanger (2). The coils of the exchanger are connected into a closed circuit that has an external heat exchanger (4) and circulation pump (5). Located in the fluid line leading to the pump is a reservoir (6) with a gas pressurised diaphragm and this unit provides an additional cooling. A variation has the heated fluid circulated through a coil within the reservoir. ADVANTAGE - Economical system for cooling battery.
