The system contains implantable electrochemical sensor elements producing electrical signals corresp. to the constituent's concn. and an electronic signal amplifying and processing system. The implantable sensor unit (2) has a sensor element (10) holder (a) for element positioning with its measurement head (10A) in contact with blood in a blood line enabling exchange of the investigated constituent. The unit wall contains a rubber elastic penetration seal (13) for a replacement instrument (3, 20) which engages the sensor element. USE - Esp. for continuous, long-term monitoring of glucose content of blood in diabetics.
