Apparatus for handling garments automatically in the dry-cleaning and laundry fields and which can deliver a garment or garments to a customer in response to an authorised requesting operation. The garments are hung on wire or similar hangers (6) as used in the dry-cleaning industry and each hanger carrying a garment is located on a rack (7) at a discrete identifiable storage location (8) from which it can be conveyed by conveying means (3) to a customer upon receipt of data associating the customer with that storage location. The rack (7) comprises an elongate structure having an open region defined by two spaced members or walls (7a) and including means e.g. notches, defining the discrete identifiable storage locations (8), such that the hanging loop of a wire garment hanger (6) can be located in any one of said storage locations with the upper part of said loop bridging said open region. Each hanger can be removed from its storage location by a pick up member (4) on the conveyor means (3) entering the open region and engaging directly under the hanging loop of the hanger (6) and lifting it up and away from said storage location (8). The conveyor means (3) then conveys the garment to a customer at a reception area. |
