PURPOSE:To obtain a medium capable of quickly and surely detecting lactic bacteria by adding a whisky distillation residue to a medium in an amount to give a medium having a protein content of 10mg to 2g per 100ml. CONSTITUTION:Conventional medium for the detection of lactic bacteria such as Nakagawa medium, MRS medium or modified NBB medium is incorporated with whisky distillation residue composed mainly of malt or corn, etc., in an amount to give a medium containing 10mg to 2g/100ml of protein. The distillation residue may be simply filtered liquid, syrup produced by evaporating and concentrating the liquid or a fraction soluble in 20%(V/V) alcohol and produced by adding an alcohol to the syrup. The growth of lactic bacteria can be remarkably increased by the addition of the residue. Accordingly, the presence of a lactic bacteria colony can be surely confirmed. Furthermore, since the medium has a specific nature to enable selective growth of lactic bacteria, it is extremely useful as a medium for the detection of lactic bacteria. |
