A ceramic system for melts comprising titanium, zirconium or alloys thereof, in particular for use as an embedding material for castings or as a precision embedding material for castings for the production of casting moulds for precision castings made from titanium or alloys thereof, in particular in medical technology, in particular in dental technology, or for use as a crucible coating is built up from lanthanum(III) oxide fluoride (LaOF) or lanthanum(III) oxide (La2O3) or lanthanum(III) fluoride (LaF3) or binary or ternary mixtures thereof. A ceramic system of this type prevents embrittlement of the surface.
