PURPOSE:To obtain a film having excellent heat resistance and elongation by using the ladder-type polyorganosiloxane which is dissolved or dispersed into straight chain polyorganosiloxane having OH group as the material to constitute the protective film layer of the glass fiber. CONSTITUTION:The resin compsn. formed by dispersing or dissolving the ladder- type polyorganosiloxane (A) into the straight chain polyorganosiloxane (B) having the OH group is a liquid viscous at ordinary temp. and can be easily applied on the glass fiber. A condensation reaction arises between the ladder- type polyorganosiloxane (A) or between the ladder-type polyorganosilioxane (A) and the straight chain polyorganosiloxane (B) having the OH group, by which the compsn. is cured and the tough coated film having the excellent heat resistance is formed. This resin compsn. is applied on the single mode glass fiber for light transmission having 10mum core 1 diameter and 125mum clad 2 diameter and is subjected to curing, by which the optical fiber having the film layer 3 is obtd. The optical fiber having such coating layer has the excellent heat resistance and since the film has adequate elongation, the fiber is free from cracking, allows easy handling and has sufficient strength. |
