PURPOSE:To obtain an inorganic antimicrobial agent having wide antimicrobial spectrum, excellent antifungal activity against various kinds of molds and safety to human and animals by replacing Ca<++> of apatite having a specific composi tion with antimicrobial metallic ion by ion exchange and supporting the antimicrobial metallic ion. CONSTITUTION:A slurry of an apatite (=tribasic calcium phosphate) having a molar ratio of Ca/P of 1,4-1.8 well-known as bio-ceramic or food additive is blended with an aqueous solution of metallic salt containing an antimicrobial metallic ion such as Ag<+>, Cu<++>, Zn<++> or Co<++> at normal temperature or under heating while stirring so that Ca<++> of apatite is replaced with the antimicrobial metallic ion by ion exchange and the antimicrobial metallic ion is supported on apatite and the blend is washed with water and dried to give the objective antimicrobial agent such as Ag carrying apatite. The substitution ratio of the metallic ion of the agent is 0.3-20mol% based on contained CaO. The agent is useful in the various fields such as industry, agriculture or food additive requiring sterilization. |
