OPTICAL FIBER DRAWING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To safely and efficiently cool a drawn optical fiber and to prevent noise by forming a cooling pipe for cooling the drawn optical fiber into a loop- shape by both a straight pipe part and a sound wave propagating pipe part connected to the straight pipe part in a by-pass shape. CONSTITUTION:Base material 1 of optical fiber is drawn in a heating furnace 2. The obtained optical fiber 3 is passed through the straight pipe part 4A of a cooling pipe 4. Then sound wave is applied to the optical fiber 3 by propagating sound wave from a sound wave generator 9 provided in a sound wave propagating part 4B whose front and rear are directed to the directions of the loop of the cooling pipe 4. Then the circumferential length of the loop of the cooling pipe 4 is regulated to length (l) shown in a formula ((n) is integer and lambda shows wavelength of sound wave). The fiber 3 is cooled by supplying cooling gas such as gaseous He from the lower part of the straight pipe part 4A and also sound wave having about 300Hz frequency is applied to the fiber 3. Then this fiber 3 is sent to a resin coater 5 to coat the surface with resin and passed through a resin curing machine 6. The fiber 3 is wound by a winder 8 to produce optical fiber.
