METHOD FOR PREPARING RED IRONOXIDE PIGMENT

This method is an application for the chemical, silicate and building industry. It is used to obtain red iron oxide pigment with high α-Fe2O3 content and stable dyeing characteristics. The method makes possible the more complete utilization of pyrite dross and recycling of waste iron oxide powders. It is carried out as follows: Water-dispersion systems containing pyrite dross with solid phase concentrations 1-8 wt.% are subjected to wet magnetic dressing at pH 4.5-7 with magnetic field intensities ranging between 20000 and 160000 A/m. The prepared magnetic concentrate is calcinated in an oxidizing atmosphere until α-Fe2O3 is formed, prior to grinding.
