METHOD AND DEVICE FOR DRAWING OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To easily enhance safety and efficiency by cooling the drawn optical fiber while applying sound wave thereto and thereafter coating this drawn optical fiber with resin. CONSTITUTION:Base material 1 of optical fiber is heated in a heating furnace 2 and drawn. The obtained optical fiber 3 is passed through a cooling pipe 4 which is provided with a sound wave generator 9 and has length (l) shown in a formula ((n) is integer and lambda shows wavelength of sound wave). Then while sound wave having about 300Hz frequency is applied to this fiber 3 from the generator 9, gaseous He is supplied at the temp. lower than the temp. of the fiber 3 from the lower part of the cooling pipe 4 and the fiber 3 is cooled. Then the cooled fiber 3 is sent to a resin coater 5 and coated by resin. Thereafter, the coated fiber is passed through a resin curing machine 6 to cure resin and wound by a winder 8.
