Centrifugal pumps are used, inter alia, to convey blood in heart/lung machines and to assist circulation. In this context, dead-water zones and therefore a greater degree of thrombosis occur on the rear side of the rotor in the vicinity of the axis. The present invention describes a centrifugal pump of the radial or combined axial/radial type, in which some of the blood is led past the axis 13 or shaft 7. This pump, in which the rotor diameter is at least as large as the distance between the bottom plate 34 and inflow tip 33 of the rotor 20 and the distance between the rotor circumference 10 and casing 3 is at least 1/20 of the rotor diameter, is characterized in that, in order to avoid dead-water zones on the rotor rear side 9, the outflow 14 is located on the casing rear wall 12 located opposite the inflow 19 and, as a result, some of the blood is led past the rotor axis 13 or rotor shaft 7. This is achieved by means of a corresponding positioning of the outflow 14 on the casing rear wall 12 and any additional devices, such as flow guide resistances and flow resistances 27, 28, 29 on the casing rear wall 12. <IMAGE> |
