The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of perfluoroalkyl sulphides (thioethers) by bringing a perfluoroalkyl halide, preferably a bromide or an iodide, into contact with a disulphide in the presence of a formate anion and of sulphur dioxide, especially a formate anion of an alkali metal or of ammonium.
