PURPOSE:To enable fast line sequential scan driving which suits to a high definition display by controlling writing operation and discharging operation alternately at the time of a line sequential scan by divisionally driving scanning electrodes. CONSTITUTION:Scanning-side drivers 51 and 52 and write voltage generating circuits 71 and 72 are separated into an odd and an even electrode block for driving. When the scanning-side selection electrodes 31 or 32 are in writing operation, a write voltage -Vm which is charged in a prescanning period is discharged forcibly in the scanning-side nonselection electrode block, and then a modulating voltage Vm is applied from data electarodes 2 to superpose the modulation voltage Vm on the write voltge -Vw. Charging operation for writing is made possible by the driving on the side of the scanning-side selection electrodes 31 or 32 even during the forcible discharging operation to drive the electrodes throughout one scanning period as a write period. Consequently, the fast line sequential scan which suits to the high resolution display can be made. |
