PURPOSE:To prevent the removal and to maintain a good connecting condition by holding a solid high polymer electrolyte membrane with two sorts of gas diffusion electrodes, and housing it in a sealing system, feeding the water to the sealing system, and applying a heat and a pressure to connect them under the saturated steam pressure. CONSTITUTION:An O ring 3 is provided at the sliding surface of a piston 1 and a cylinder 2, and a sealing system to house a solid high polymer electrolyte membrane 4 held between two sheets of gas diffusion electrodes is arranged. In such a system, the cylinder 2 furnishes a passage 5 to feed the water to the sealing system, and a temperature sensor 6. In the procedure of connection, the solid high polymer electrolyte membrane 4 held between the two gas diffusion electrodes is housed directly in the cylinder 2, the piston and the cylinder are placed between hot presses 8 which furnish built-in heaters 7, a heat and a pressure are applied while feeding the water in the sealing system, and the both members are connected under the saturated steam pressure. As a result, the solid high polymer electrolyte membrane 4 and the gas diffusion electrodes can be connected in a swelling condition close to the operational condition. Consequently, the connecting condition of the electrolyte membrane and the electrodes can be maintained in a good condition constantly, and the removal of the interfaces of both members is never generated. |
