The invention is a piperidine derivative represented by the general formula (I), (I) wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, R2 represents a hydrogen atom, or a C1-C18 straight-chain or branched alkyl group, C1-C10 straight-chain or branched alkylene or alkylidene group, C3-C5 trivalent hydrocarbon residue or C5-C10 tetravalent hydrocarbon residue, and n represents an integer of 1 to 4. The piperidine derivative of the invention may be used to stabilize synthetic resins such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyurethane, ABS resin and the like against deterioration by the action of light. |
