PURPOSE:To obtain an antimicrobial agent for infectious diseases caused by Gram-positive bacteria by culturing a microorganism, belonging to actinomyces and capable of producing galacardins A (G-A) and B (G-B). CONSTITUTION:An antibiotic substance galacardin A produced by culturing a strain SANK 64289 (FERM P-10940) in a culture medium containing glucose, etc., providing a culture, centrifuging and purifying the resultant culture and having the following physico-chemical properties. Properties of the substance; amphoteric water-soluble white powder. Specific rotatory power [alpha]-38.7 deg. (c, 1.00, H2O). Elementary analysis value%; C, 50.55; H, 5.62; N, 5.06; Cl, 2.39; F, 1.16 (provided that trifluoroacetic acid and water are partially contained). Molecular formula; C101H121O46N9Cl2. Molecular weight; 2265 (measured by an FAB- MAS method). Hydrolysis; producing monodechlorovancomycinic acid, etc., as amino acids by acid hydrolysis. Ultraviolet absorption spectrum; lambdamaxnm (E) 280nm (39.6). Soluble in water, methanol, etc. The galacardin B is similarly produced. The resultant G-A and G-B, as necessary, contained to produce an antimicrobial agent. |
