The invention relates to an apparatus for sensing and processing electrical signals, having an apparatus housing 1, which is divided into plug-in chambers 2 and 4 which are open towards the front side, it being possible to arrange a controller plug-in unit 3, containing an electronic controller unit, in one plug-in chamber 2, and a power supplying plug-in unit 5, containing a power supply, in a second plug-in chamber 4. The controller unit and the power supply can be connected by means of leads both to one another and to connecting contacts 31 for external connections. A controller plug-in unit 3, with a second electronic controller unit, identical to the first controller unit, and a power supply plug-in unit 5, with a second power supply that is partially identical to the first power supply, can be arranged in further plug-in chambers 2 and 4 which are open to the front side of the apparatus housing 1, which plug-in units can be connected by means of leads both to one another and to connecting contacts 31 for external connections. The first controller unit can be supplied with power from the first power supply and the second controller unit can be supplied with power from the second power supply. Input signals can be supplied simultaneously, in parallel, from the exterior via the leads to both controller units and can be processed in synchronism by both controller units. Output signals can be generated exclusively from one of the controller units depending on the signal processing and the status of the controller units.
