The invention relates to an automatic device for manufacturing pellets of a given composition. This device comprises - storage vessels (1) each containing a powder of an element or of a compound of an element or elements involved in the composition to be obtained, - means (3, 5) for extracting from these storage vessels the desired quantities of powders of elements and/or of a compound or compounds of an element or elements corresponding to the stoichiometric proportions of the composition to be obtained, - means (13) for mixing, dry, the extracted quantities of powder and - means (27) for compressing the mixed powders into the form of pellets. It may be used for producing pellets of superconducting material, such as YBaCuO. <IMAGE>
