The invention relates to a method and a device for detecting chemical species using an inorganic semiconductor thin film. According to this method, the gas or the solution containing the species to be detected is placed in contact (at 11b) with a sensitive element (9b) comprising at least one film of inorganic semiconductor material, for example tin oxide, copper sulphide or mercury sulphide, and the electrical conductivity of the film (9b) is compared with that of a reference film (9a) in controlled atmosphere (11a), which makes it possible to detect the presence of a chemical species at (11b). <IMAGE>
