PURPOSE:To obtain an extract containing medicinal active ingredients contained in the bark of Eucommia ulmoides by extracting the seeds of Eucommia ulmoides. CONSTITUTION:The seeds of Eucommia ulmoides, pref. current seeds collected in their maturity are ground and extracted using water, ketone, aromatic hydrocarbon, ether, etc., (pref. a mixture of water and lower alcohol). The resulting liquid extract is concentrated under reduced pressure, thus obtaining the objective extract. The extract contains medicinal active ingredients contained in the bark, in particular, such ones as to have marked vasodepressor activity (e.g pinoresinol-di-O-beta-D-glucoside, aucubin, syringin, liriodendrin, etc., and also contains new iridoid glycoside of the formula (R is H or acyl; n is 1 or 2). With the present method, the objective extract can be obtained without the need for much labor as the case with the collection from grown Eucommia ulmoides and without having adverse effect on the growth or existence of the grown Eucommia ulmoides. |
