A nuclear reactor plant has a core (1), means for controlling the reactivity of the core (5, 6, 7, 8, 9), radiological shielding (16, 17, 18, 19), and inlet ducts (14) and outlet ducts (15) to conduct coolant into and out of the core. The plant is characterized in that ports (20, 21) are provided in the inlet and outlet ducts for conducting coolant between a reserve coolant tank (30) and the inlet and outlet ducts by natural convection during impairment of the reactor's cooling circuit. A delay tank (26) receives coolant from the outlet ducts; it encompasses the core and provides additional radiological shielding. A shielding tank (19) containing radiation-absorbing laminates (20) and coolant surrounds the core.
