A process for producing a tooth crown (12) from a workpiece (36) with the aid of two sonotrodes (33, 35) in which the workpiece (36) is processed at the same time by both sonotrodes (33, 35), where the workpiece (36) is held in an initial working pass by a workpiece holder (37) and in a second pass by the two sonotrodes after the removal of the holder (37). A suitable device for implementing the process is a sonotrode the body (29) of which consists of a plastically deformable substance which becomes hard and non-wearing after curing and/or is given a hard, non-wearing coating (31) on the workpiece crown (32). The hard, non-wearing coating (31) is preferably electrolytically deposited, sprayed or vapour-deposited on the workpiece crown or cast and adhesively secured thereto.
