<p>A bed (10) for a flat bed knitting machine has a flat elongate surface which receives a plurality of parallel latchable needles (36), and a carriage (12) is slidable along the bed in order to displace the needles in a knitting action. The bed is formed from a plurality of individual units (14) which are fitted together by means of recesses and projections on adjoining ends of adjacent units. The carriage is also provided with interchangeable, removable yarn guides (60), enabling the same carriage to be used on a number of different beds. The carriage is also provided with an aperture (74) positioned over the knitting area of the bed upon which the carriage is slidable, facilitating intarcia knitting.</p> |
