<p>An apparatus and process for the decontamination of oil such as lubricating, seal, hydraulic or transformer oil, contaminated by gaseous and/or volatile liquid contaminants such as light hydrocarbons, acid gases and water. The apparatus comprises a jet compressor (11) combined with a residence time chamber (12) wherein the contaminated oil is intimately mixed with air or inert gas from a source (19) at elevated temperature, whereby heat and mass transfers occur and the contaminants transfer from the oil phase to the gas phase. The mixture is then flashed into a disengaging drum (14) whereby the gas separates from the oil such that the gas is 95 - 100 % saturated with contaminants. This gas is vented, taking with it the volatile contaminant liquids and gases, and the decontaminated oil is returned to the reservoir (1) from the bottom of the disengaging drum (14).</p> |
