Optical polarisation analyser - separates input light into measurement beams which are further divided by polarisation beam dividers before intensity is measured

The analyser separates a transmitted light beam (10) into three or more measurement beams (10a, 10b, 10c), each of which is divided into two mutually perpendicularly polarised beams (11a, 12a, etc.) by a polarisation beam divider (26a-26c). At least one of the polarisation beam dividers has a quarter-wavelength plate (25c) placed in front of it. Each polarised partial beam is fed to a light receiver (27) which measures its intensity. USE/ADVANTAGE - Enables fully optical polarisation analysis without use of mechanically moving parts and has partic. simple means of determining state of polarisation.
