Above the level of fuel (4) a thin-walled air bag (5) is installed with a vent (3) connected (38) through a vacuum valve (39) to the engine inlet manifold (32). The underside is folded (9) under atmos. pressure as the tank is refilled (2). A suction port (24) guarded by a spherical float (27) is connected (25) to another vacuum valve (31) for drawing-off vapour from the free space (35) via an active carbon filter, which is regnerated by fresh air sucked-in when the port (24) is closed. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. on motor vehicles. Hazardous and pollutant vapour can be extracted for combustion.
