PURPOSE:To simplify a structure and to acquire a capacitor having high energy density which does not need an electrode pressure means by using a porous sintered body consisting of a specified activated carbon alone as a polarization electrode. CONSTITUTION:In an electric double layer capacitor which uses an electric double layer formed by an interface between an activated carbon and an electrolyte, a pulse voltage is applied instantaneously to activated carbon particles 1 to 3 which are mutually sintered; then, an electric field between clearances 6, 7 increases and insulating breakdown is produced between particles 1 to 3, thereby producing spark discharge. A large pressure is thereafter produced between conductive fine particles; distortion is provided to a fine particle; fine particles 1 to 3 become easy to deform by module heat due to a following current; and each of fine particles 1 to 3 comes into single- point contact and a contact area enlarges, thereby forming a porous sintered body which consists of an activated carbon alone whose fine particles of small inner resistance are sintered and combined mutually. Therefore, using of the sintered body as a polarization electrode realizes an electric double layer capacitor of simple structure which has high energy density and does not require an electrode pressure means. |
