A ribbon cartridge (1) with an ink or correction ribbon which can be fitted onto a typewriter or similar office machine is to be able to be fitted easily onto the receiving device (2) in the machine or removed therefrom without any particular skill being required of the person operating the machine. For this purpose, a winding reel (41) is mounted fixedly so as to be rotatable and a drive roller (81) is mounted movably in the cartridge (1) in such a way that the drive roller (81) can be kept by a prestressed spring (82) permanently in engagement against the outermost winding of the ribbon (11) wound onto the winding reel (41). The drive roller (81) is firmly connected to a pinion (90) which is accessible outside the cartridge (1) and can be coupled to the straight strand of a toothed belt (92) in any position of displacement of the drive roller (81). A simple cartridge exchange is possible via the pinion (90) and, additionally, a constant transporting stroke of the ink or correction ribbon (11) is always guaranteed. <IMAGE>
