A tooth paste compsn. contg. a dental anticalculus agent comprises 0.5-3 wt.% acidic ultra metaphosphate, 0.01-0.5 wt.% sodium fluoride, 0.1-2 wt.% sodium fluophosphate, 0.1-5 wt.% sodium citrate as a metal ion-sequestering agent, 0.5-3 wt.% lauryl sodium sulphate as an anionic surfactant and 0.5-3 wt.% polyoxyethylene polyoxypropylene copolymer of formula H(CH2CH2O)x (CH2CH3CH2O)y (CH2CH2O)z OH [x=z= 30-50; y= 50-70 as a non-ionic surfactant. The tooth paste compsn. is used in the prevention of a carious tooth.
