Apparatus for generation of oxy-hydrogen gas. Comprises a battery 1 of electrolytic cells 9 alternating with cooling chambers 10, a water tank 2 and a vaporiser 3. Forced ventilation is provided through chambers 10. A part 23 of battery 1 is connected to pipe 24 through which the gas circulates to the outlet of water tank 2 for cooling. A part 25 of battery 1 operates as an electrolytic generator for gas and the other 23 as a cooling radiator for cooling the oxyhydrogen gas. Water tank 2 is located above battery 1, the pressure due to the head being sufficient to cause the water to circulate. Outlet opening 26 for water from battery 1 is located at the base, which encourages flushing of the accumulated residues. Greater efficiency is achieved. Applied to the welding of metals. <IMAGE>
