Method for manufacturing smooth or textured surfacing panels having a stone-like appearance, based on elastomer compounds and resulting product. In order that there should be suitable cohesion between the base panel and the incorporated particles which impart the stone-like appearance to prevent wear during use, particulate powder unvulcanised elastomer materials are added to the surface of a base panel, preferably at between 100 and 500 g/m2, in the form of a crude elastomer similar to that used for the aforesaid base panel, subsequently vulcanising the whole at between 120 and 180 degree C at a pressure of 50 kg/cm2 in order to achieve combined crosslinking of the adjacent molecules in the two elements. Alternatively, the particulate powder may be added to the bottom of the vulcanising mould. The plates obtained, which incorporate 100 to 500 g/m2 of firmly adhering elastomer compound similar to the basic panel, can be used for surfacing, e.g. as long-life flooring. <IMAGE>
