A track-switching system for carriages rolling or sliding on tracks A or B, Fig. 1, each formed by two parallel rails 1 spaced from each other by a continuous slot 2 providing a passage for load-carrying suspension elements (12), Fig. 2 (not shown), carried by the carriages (11), comprises two guide switches of Y-shape connecting the tracks A and B, each switch including a section of arcuate contour and the sections connected one with the other and curved in opposite directions, contra-rotatable wheels 3, 4 supported for rotation about axes coincident one with the centre of one section and one with the centre of the other section and fingers 5 pivoted at 8 to each wheel, against the urge of springs 9, the arrangement being such that an extremity 6 of a finger 5 on one wheel, e.g. 3, moves a carriage along the associated arcuate section of track whilst the extremity 6 of a finger 5 on the wheel 4 moves the carriage along the arcuate track section associated with the wheel 4. The fingers 5 and wheels 3, 4, are constructed and operate in the manner described in the Specification 962,438. The fingers of the two wheels have at least their extremities displaced relative to each other in the direction of the axes of the wheels in such a manner that the extremities cannot strike each other during rotation of the wheels, as described with reference to Fig. 3 (not shown). Alternatively, the extremities are chamfered. The carriages are driven along the tracks A and B by chains. The wheels 3, 4 may differ in diameter. The switching from one track to the other is effected by pivoted shutters 15. |
