PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst having good purifying capacity and excellent durability in a low temp. region by supporting a metal selected from platinum, palladium and rhodium and silver by stabilized cerium oxide. CONSTITUTION:At least one metal selected from a group consisting of platinum, palladium and rhodium and a silver are supported by stabilized cerium oxide being cerium oxide containing a metal such as magnesium or calcium. The catalyst thus obtained purifies the exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine using alcohol as fuel even in a low temp. region with the high purifying capacity of unburnt methanol, aldehydes, CO and HC and has durability. |
