New substd. 1-iodo:propyn-3-yl-beta-cyanoalkyl ether cpds. - prepd. by reacting propyne-3-yl-cyanoalkyl ether with iodine under alkaline conditions in presence of diluent

Substd. 1-iodopropyne-3-yl-beta-cyanoalkyl ethers of formula (I) are new, where R1, R2 = 1-3C alkyl, opt. substd. by CN or H. A propyne-3-yl-beta-cyanoalkyl ether of formula (ii) is reacted with iodine under alkaline conditions in presence of a diluent, at -20 to 40 deg. C. USE/ADVANTAGE - Microbiocides contg. (I) opt. with other microbiocides, and esp. contg. 1-98 (10-50) wt. % of (I) are claimed. The microbiocides are used to protect technical materials, esp. leather, textiles and textile hydrophobising compsns. against microorganisms (claimed). Wood, paints, plaster aq. compsns. synthetics, coolant lubricants, paper, silicone sealants, and coatings can also be protected. (I) are highly active, with a broad spectrum of activity against bacteria e.g. Bacilus subtilis, yeasts, e.g. Torula utilis, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae, moulds, e.g. Cladosporium resinae, Ulocladium consortiale, Aspergillus niger, Penicilium funicolosum, Chaetomium globosum, Trichoderma viride, Sclerophoma pityophila, wood-destroying moulds, e.g. Aurebasidium pullulans, Coniphora puteana, and Foria montecola, and algae, e.g. Chlorella fusca. (I) can be incorporated in nonpolar hydrophobic materials.
