PURPOSE:To obtain the titled jointed body with high joining strenght and superior performance by laying an electrode catalyst on the surface of an ion exchange membrane beforehand when the membrane and a catalytic metal are joined together by electroless plating. CONSTITUTION:A cation or anion exchange membrane may be used as the ion exchange membrane, and for example, a fluororesin-base cation exchange membrane used. A catalytic metal such as a Pt group metal is laid on the surface of the membrane. For example, a soln. of chloroplatinic acid in butanol is repeatedly applied, dried, and heat treated to lay the desired catalytic metal. The surface of this exchange membrane is then subjected to electroless plating. The electroless plating proceeds on the previously laid electrode catalyst as a nucleus, so an ion exchange membrane-catalytic electrode joined body with high surface uniformity and high joining strength is obtd. |
