The image pick-up arrangement comprises an optical system, detector matrix with rectangular shaped detector cells and an image processing arrangement connected to it. The optical system used is anamorphotic in design and forms an image, e.g. of a square object (4), on the detector matrix field (2) as a rectangular image (4'). The matrix field (2) includes rectangular shaped detector cells (6) arranged in rows and columns, with equal numbers of rows and columns. In order to provide the same field of view, both horizontally and vertically, the horizontal focal width and the vertical focal width of the optical system (1) must be different so that the ratio of sides of the image (4') of a square object (4) is the same as the ratio of the horizontal and vertical spacing of the detector cells (6).
