PURPOSE:To improve the contrast and sensitivity of the medium as well as environmental resistance and to prevent the deterioration in performance with age by providing a recording layer which consists of specific ratio of aluminum and nitrogen and reflects light. CONSTITUTION:This recording medium is constructed by providing a metallic layer 2 directly on a substrate 1. This metallic layer 2 consists of the aluminum and the nitrogen. In addition, the content of the nitrogen in the metallic layer 2 is confined to 0.1 to 20% based on the atomic ratio. The aluminum film right after the formation of the thin film is not always in a stable crystal state but the aluminum nitride is formed at the grain boundaries by incorporating the nitrogen therein and the structure right after the formation of the thin film is immobilized. The structure of the aluminum is thus physically stabilized. The good contrast and sensitivity are obtd. in this way and the generation of the deterioration in performance with age and more particularly the deteriora tion in the performance even in the environment of a high temp. and high humid ity is obviated. |
